A free experimental piano from Spitfire Audio, played in Splice INSTRUMENT.
Modular Piano began as a felt-fitted Schimmel upright and a Wurlitzer electric piano. Spitfire co-founder Christian Henson ran both through his modular rig, adding analogue reverbs, delays and other effects. Presets such as Granular Piano and Tank Piano sound atmospheric, with a slightly industrial grain. It suits sci-fi, tech thrillers, tense documentary and electronic score where a plain piano would feel too clean. It is part of the free LABS collection, now hosted in the Splice INSTRUMENT plugin. Be aware that it is a sound-design tool rather than a realistic piano, and it needs INSTRUMENT and a Splice account to run.
Worth knowing: Formerly a Spitfire LABS pack. Since LABS closed on 31 October 2026 it loads in the free Splice INSTRUMENT plugin, which you download by giving an email address.
